I cannot believe that we came end of the term. This course's strenghts are learning too many beneficial technological tools. Throughout the term, we did our assigments as a group which made our works easier. Furthermore, in this way we learned how to work collaboratively and cooperatively. The weaknesses of the course are given limited time for each assignment. We had so many assignment to to, yet due to our busy schedule, we had limited time. That is why these weaknesses were also the difficulty of the course. My most favourite task was creating AR/VR integrated materials beacuse this task's content was interesting comparing the other tasks. My least favourite task was creating a flipped classroom video. I know it is very beneficial for students, but we had a hard time creating the video since it required a lot of technologial abilities. My suggestion to improve this task can be extending the deadline so that students do it in a more comfortable way. I would tell the students who would take this course next year that they are so lucky to take this course because they will learn so many beneficial imformations and tools. Also they should take this course serriously. I think this course contributed my professional development in a really good way. What is more, i can add my blog page in my CV. Hello Everyone, Last week we have talked about AI and our instructor gave us an assignment about it. Also we have mentioned effects of Integrating AI in classess. Then our ınstructor askes us to create an AI integrated teaching material for the assisgnment. My group friends' names are Simge Yazıci and Esma Uyguner. We used Canva as a tool. The topic that we choose was writing a postcard about a holiday. Furthermore, for the task we wanted students to use Grammarly as an AI. To be honest, we found this assignment quite beneficial for students. What is more, we will definitely use it in the future. There are our project's picture below. Then our instructor gave us to creat a teaching material about it. Before talking about the the assignment, let me explain the AR/VR: By incorporating digital elements into a live view, augmented reality (AR) enhances your surroundings. Virtual reality (VR) is a fully immersive technology that substitutes a simulated environment for the real world. Furthermore, we have learned that AR adds text, sound effects, or image elements to the world as it already exists. Conversely, virtual reality (VR) builds a brand-new simulation environment that gives students a particular subject in an interesting, hands-on, and interactive way. We worked as a group for this assignment. My group friends' names are Esma Uyguner and Simge Yazıcı. for the material we used Canva. Main theme was ''Exploring a city abroad'' and we chose Italy. In the task we embedded links, QR codes, and AR based 360 videos so that students can visit the Italy virtually via using these items. In light of their experiences, we developed some questions. Finally, we gave the students the task of journaling about their experiences and discussing it with their peers.By doing this assignment, me and my friends learned how to creat QR codes which was exciting for us. What is more, I found it quite beneficial for the learners and I will definitely use these materials in the future. There are our project's picture below. Then our instructor asked us to creat a video about it. Before talking about the assignment, let me explain the flipped classroom to you: It is an educational strategy that flips the roles of activities inside and outside of the classroom. The learners take charge of their education by selecting the times, methods, and locations in which they want to view the course materials prior to class; this creates a student-centered learning environment by transferring accountability from teachers to students. It allows students to adapt their education to their needs and interests, deepens conceptual understanding and application. Furthermore, it boosts academic achievement, and increases learner motivation and engagement. Despite of its many opportunities, there are certain drawbacks. For example, students who participate in multiple social media groups and channels may find it harder to concentrate during the class. Our assignment was create a flipped teaching video with our peers. My peer was Tuğba Yeşilmen. The teacher gave us two options: one is creating a grammar teaching video the other is creating a vocabulary teaching video for a flipped EFL classroom. We chose the vocabulary teaching video. We were supposed to choose a group of words to teach from MEB English coursebook for grade 5 students. For this, we chose the Pawtoon as a tool. We decided to do a video based on the words about the movies. Then, we construct dialogues and the scenerio for it Finally we started to do the video. To be honest, it was quite challenging for us to generate the video bacause it required advanced technological skills and we had limited time. We searched for multiple websites to make the video. Finally we decided on the Pawtoon because this website allowed us record our voices in it which prevent looking for another website to record the voices. However, some of its features could only be unlocked with money. Like adding high quality photos. As a solution to this, we used the images we found ourselves. We used drawings, animations and videos that could attract the attention of young learners. At last we record our voices multiple times and combined it with the video. Combining video and audio synchronously was so difficult for us. Finally we send it on Youtube. Our worksheet link is also atached the video. By using our video young learners will both have fun and get ready to class since in the video there are informations, images, exercises and activities. I'm here again after a long time. I am a 3rd year ELT student this year. Time really flies so quickly. This year, I will use this blog to publish my Current Issues course assignments. The first assignment of this year is to prepare a corpus-based material in peers. Before talking about the assignment, let me explain the corpus a little to you: A corpus is a compilation of written texts, particularly the complete writings of one author or a body of work on a specific topic. Text collections can include excerpts from books, magazines, newspapers, business letters, popular fiction, published or unpublished school essays, and more. The data provided by corpus allows learners to identify patterns on their own; typically, the focus is on grammar and vocabulary. Instead of being passive consumers of knowledge, learners are seen as active constructors. Teachers are viewed as guides or facilitators who assist students in formulating questions and hypotheses and in conducting corpus research. Considering its many benefits, we see that by using corpus based material in classrooms students will be able to comprehend developments on their own, they will be able to interact with other learners and teachers as well by using corpus based materials. Our assignment was preparing a corpus based material with peers. Additionaly, We had to prepare this material based on the English book of the preparatory class. The objective that my peer Hilal Uçar and I selected was "talking about possessions" from the first unit of the book, Studying Abroad. We have decided to prepare a material about the comparison of "its and it's", which is one of the subheadings of this topic. We used Canva to prepare the material. We opened a joint Canva activity page and arranged the activity collaboratively. You can see our material by clicking here. The material consists of four steps. With Step 1, students will be able to test their knowledge on the subject. With Step 2 they will be able to improve their knowledge with corpus work. In this step, we used corpusmate.com as a digital device. Thanks to this site, students will be able to see plenty of sentence examples related to its and it's. With Step 3, learners will be able to define the differences between the words by using their current knowldge. In Step 4, he added a fill-in-the-blank activity to the material where they could practice the topic. In this way, they will be able to grasp the subject. To conclude I found corpus based maerials quite effective for students since it has so many adantages for them. Also in the future I will definitely use it in my English Classes. I cannot believe that we came end of the term. This semester passed quickly, but we learned so many things in the Educational Technology Class. In the beginning of the term, our instructor explain us the 21st century learning. Then we opened our blog pages and we reflected our assignments and our thoughts for every task in our blog pages. I learned so many new things such as, creating a blog page, using the Wiki, Creating a podcast, creating a PSA, using the Padlet and Canva for ELT classes. To be honest I liked the podcast most because recording my voice and then listening to it was like one of my phobia and thanks to podcast I got over this fear and I even liked to record my voice:) We did our projects both individually and collaboratively. Then in the class we did so many peer reviews. By doing this we saw our friends projects and thoughts which was very beneficial for us. There were times when I had a hard time doing my projects, but somehow I got it done. Before I took this course I was not look positively to integrate the technology in my ELT class because I was thinking there is no need to use so many technological tools to teach the English. However, after taking this course my thoughts changed positively thanks to what I learned in this lesson. I also realised that it would be wrong to ignore the technology especially in this century. My future students also born with the technology and I think, in order to keep up with them we teacher candidates should also know how to use the technology well. That is why I will definitely use it in the future. My suggestion for this course, students should do all task with their friends collaboratively because all assignments may be more easier and entertaining by doing together. I am really excited to tell you my new assignment:). our instructor asked us to create an online poster. She gave us two options for this project. These are creating a movie poster or a magazine cover. I chose to do a movie poster. For the movie poster our teacher asked us to create a poster based on the book we read and imagine this book is being made into a movie and we are responsible for its advertising. I chose to make a movie poster of the book that I have been reading recently. The name of the book is ' Secret Agency' and there are many mysterious events in the book. That is why I thought it would be exciting to make a poster of this book and I was not wrong. I used Canva for the tool of this project. Canva is very ben useful for the visual works and I liked it. For the movie I chose the actors myself:). I decided David Tennant for the leading role because I liked his performance in Doctor who very much and his personality is very similar to protagonist of the book. I put his photo on the poster and it looked amazing. In addition to David Tennant, the cast includes Morgen Freeman,Elisabeth Olsen, Sadie Sink, Dakota Fanning, Hunter Doohan. I foolowed the instructions given by the teacher while doing the homework and finally finished the poster. In the Future I would definitely give this assignment to my students since it is not very challenging project. What is more, by doing this project their visual intelligence will develop. Before talking about the assignment let me explain the digital storytelling. Digital story telling is combination of audios, graphics, texts, video and music with storytelling. So, it can be used my teachers for 21st learning. Then our instructor asked us to create a digital story. She gave us options such as, creating a public service announcement (PSA), how to projects and a fictional story. Me and my friends Hilal and Simge chose to create a PSA. At first we needed to find an idea for the PSA. Since we have already searched many information about the gender inequality during our padlet assignment, we have decided to create a PSA about this topic. Besides this issue was relevant to Turkey. Then, we wrote our script. We chose Vimeo for the tool. I will tell you the truth, it was really difficult and sometimes I wanted to cry:). We chose videos and music matching the script. Thankfully Vimeo had many images and musics. After that we recorded our voices at least ten times. After finishing the video we published it in Simge's youtube account. This assignment can be beneficial to students' learning since visual and auditory learning are combined. Also they will learn collaboration as they do it together. However, I would not give this assignment to my students because it requires a lot of technological information and it takes a lot of time. You can watch our PSA video by clicking on it down below. Last week we talked about podcast in our Informaion Technologies class. Then our instructor gave us an assignment. Our assignment was doing a podcast with our voices. She gave us options for the topic. options were creating a vox-pop, improving the world (Individual), and creating a chant/song (Individual or PW), A sound-rich story (PW). I chose second one because it was challenging and I love challenges:). For this option, I had to record my idea about making the world a better place but, it had to exactly 60 seconds and that was the challenging part. My idea to improving the world, everyone in the world will wear their headphones and listen to a same music everyday at the certain time. This will remind the human beings that even though peaople have different features like physically or mentally, we are all human and we share same feelings. What is more, when the healing role of the music comes in it will be more healing. It was hard to sum up my idea to 60 seconds but I did it eventually and which was so exciting:)
To be honest, at first it was very stressfull to me because I had the flu and my voice was hoarse. That is why I was afraid my voice would not sound good on the tape. Thankfully, after the taking tones of pills, I was able to speak at least. For this assignment I used Vocaroo for the tool because on Vocaroo when I recorded my voice, it gave the link of my sound which was very helping and useful for this assignment. Podcast have many advantages like students will be able hear their voice and they will improve their pronunciation. Additionally, their writing skills will develope as well because before recording, they will write to what they will say and this will help their writing skills. See you in the next post:) Hello Everyone, Last week we have talked about internet based projects in Information Technologies class. Then, our instructor gave us an assignment about it. Our assignment was to open an Padlet account and do a project about one of the topics that our teacher gave us. Then we chose the '' Gender Inequality'' since we are interested in this topic, and we have had so many thoughts and plans for this subject. This project was also a group work. That is why we decided our peers at first. Our group member's names are Hilal Uçar, Simge Yazıci and Tuğba Yeşilmen. To be honest Padlet was very useful tool for this project since it has many opportunities such as doing charts, pictures etc. We added some images, videos and links about the topic thanks to Padlet. As you know that too, developing technology has brought responsibilities to both student and teachers. That is why technology should be integrated in classes to be matched with 21st century learning skills. This project that we have completed was exactly matched with this century's purpose. Students will be able to use web 2.0 tools in the classes and this will increase the effectiveness of the lesson.
